Are you ready to take your online presence to the next level? Whether you’re launching a new website or revamping your current one, finding the right web designer and developer is crucial for success. With countless options out there, it can be overwhelming to make the right choice. Fear not! We’ve compiled a list of 7 questions to ask before hiring a web designer and developer, ensuring a smooth and productive collaboration.
7 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Web Designer + Developer
1. What is Your Experience with WordPress Development?
WordPress powers nearly 40% of the internet, making it a popular choice for websites of all sizes. Make sure your potential web designer and developer have ample experience with WordPress. Inquire about their familiarity with custom themes, plugins, and troubleshooting common WordPress issues. A skilled WordPress developer will ensure your site is not only visually appealing but also functional and user-friendly.
2. Can You Provide Examples of Your Previous Work?
A portfolio is a window into a web designer and developer’s capabilities. Request to see samples of their previous projects to get a sense of their style, creativity, and technical expertise. Pay attention to the diversity of their work – a versatile portfolio suggests adaptability and a range of skills that can meet your unique needs.
3. What is Your Approach to Responsive Design?
In today’s mobile-centric world, responsive design is non-negotiable. Ensure your web designer and developer prioritize creating a site that looks and functions seamlessly across various devices. Ask about their strategies for responsive design and how they handle challenges related to different screen sizes and resolutions.
4. How Will You Handle SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is vital for your website’s visibility on search engines. A good web designer and developer should understand the basics of SEO and incorporate best practices into the site’s structure. Inquire about their approach to on-page SEO, including URL structure, meta tags, and image optimization, to maximize your site’s search engine performance.
5. What is Your Testing Process?
A robust testing process is key to identifying and resolving issues before your website goes live. Ask about their testing procedures for functionality, compatibility, and performance. A comprehensive testing phase ensures a smooth launch and minimizes the risk of post-launch surprises.
6. How Do You Handle Security?
Security is paramount in the digital realm. Inquire about the web designer and developer’s approach to website security. This includes regular updates, secure coding practices, and measures to protect against common online threats. A secure website is not only essential for your business but also for the trust of your visitors.
7. What is Your Post-Launch Support Policy?
A successful website launch is just the beginning. Ask about the post-launch support and maintenance services offered by the web designer and developer. Understand their policies on updates, bug fixes, and any potential issues that may arise after the site is live. A reliable support system ensures that your website continues to perform optimally over time.
In conclusion, finding the right web designer and developer is a critical step in achieving your online goals. By asking these 7 questions, you’ll gain valuable insights into their skills, approach, and commitment to delivering a website that not only meets but exceeds your expectations. Remember, a friendly and professional partnership sets the stage for success in the dynamic world of web development. Happy hiring!

How much do u charge?
Hi Kerrilyn!
Thanks for reaching out! I do not charge by the hour, how much I charge depends on the scope of the project as a whole. For instance a small, 5 page informational website is typically around $1,500. However, if you were wanting to add a blog, events, products, scheduling, or any other “special” functionality, that could add an additional $250-$2,000. If you’re an non-profit organization or charity, I do provide discounts.
